Trends We Spotted at Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2016 Day 4 and Grand Finale

While it was a star studded event on the Grand Finale of the Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2016, the Day 4 was equally a grand event. The 4th day was highlighted with some avant-garde yet wearable designs by talented young couturiers who dared to experiment with distinctive types of fabrics. Day 5 on the other hand was a mix of glitz and glamor with the presence of Kareena Kapoor who brought the curtains down with her stunning appearance. So, let’s take a look at some of the trends we spotted at the LFW Summer Resort 2016 Day 4 and Grand Finale..

Monisha Jaising

From a mesmerizing collection of embroidered denims and embellished gowns to overalls with metallic applique and fringed separates, Monisha Jaising created magic with gold, ivory and brown.



Funky prints and splash of colors formed Masaba’s collection. Her range was accentuated with playful designs like Chhap Tilak, chilies, or sliced garlics on different cuts. Sizeable garbage bag pants, sarees with frills and deconstructed jackets represented her collection.

The menswear collection by Kunal Rawal was simply outstanding with some real good ethnic wearable on show perfect for the summer wedding. Sleek pyjamas, hand crafted Nehru jackets, crotch pants and a lots more that attracted our attention, and are a sure a must have this season.

Shivan and Naresh

If you are fan of the renowned artist Fernand Lege, you would instantly relate to the designs by Shivan and Naresh that seeks inspiration from the artist’s work. We simply loved the use of art on neoprene lehengas, bikini saris, raindrop dresses, etc.

Payal Khandwala

We vouch for the super wearable range by designer Payal Khandwala who treated us with her aesthetically designed collection that consisted of low waist skirts, saris layered with shirts, palazzos, geometrical jewelry, leather belts, bags and more.

Bold dressing formed the concept of Ajio.com that featured wardrobe essentials for every event that you need to attend from casual afternoons, office meetings to parties. Graphic skirts, leather jackets atop saris or the belted saris the choice was endless with their debut collection.

Gorgeous lehengas in vibrant hues brightened up the runway for Saroj Jalan. Perfect as an Indian bridal wear, this is traditional yet something different.

The Day 5 of the fashion extravaganza was lit up with the designs of Rohit Bal and the drop dead gorgeous Kareena Kapoor Khan as is showstopper. The spectacular was represented with voluminous silhouettes in shades of gold and ivory with embellished jewel stones.

The handcrafted line “Knots of Love” by Rahul Mishra featured bandhni saris, shirt dresses etc., along with embroidered bombers in denim, slim pants and more.

The celebrated designer kept as us asking more with her sartorial surprises that were a level up with edgy contours cushioned with laces and drapes exuding the ultra-feminine charm. Anarkalis paired with draped jackets or the polo shirts as crop tops, her collection was all about freeing up your bold side.

Three dimensional prints or fabrics with gorgeous brocade designs, Urvashi Joneja’s collection was avant-garde creations in summer hues like, mustard, blues and moss green.

Grand Finale: Amazon India Fashion Week Autumn-Winter 2016

The Grand Finale of the five day fashion spectacular, the Amazon India Fashion Week Autumn-Winter 2016 based on “India Modern” theme showcased creations of nine ace fashion designers which included names like, Rajesh Pratap Singh and Anju Modi. The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi witnessed a motley of some fine creations by these talented designers.

The whole idea was to exhibit the correlation of fashion with the spirit of times and with the vision of a sartorial modern India as it maintains it rich heritage through the classic weaves and craftsmanship. Day 5 was all about unique styles and cuts. So let’s take a quick roundup of the super creations by the nine stalwart designers.

Rajesh Pratap Singh

Taking a cue from his Gold Rush collection, the veteran designer Rajesh Pratap Singh gave us garments in midnight blue with handprinted gold motifs. His designs introduced us to fine zardozi work linear silhouettes and a style that was inspired from the Pichwai painting technique of Rajasthan. We also loved the concept of long jackets with pants, the fluid shapes and sleek patterns.

We must say that we simply loved Rahul Mishra’s creations which seemed to be inspired from his own collection at the Paris Fashion Week. The use of plenty of motifs on long flowing skirts, Khadi evening gowns that was a sight to behold with those flower motifs.

Anju Modi

Anju Modi stayed loyal to her signature work of intricate embroidery on rich hues that reelected the royal charm. Her creations continued with the dazzling mirror work, block printing and gorgeous zardozi on the quintessential anarkalis, lehengas and on the modern yet traditional asymmetrical skirts.

Abraham and Thakore

The eternal ghagra cholis took a contemporary twist with intriguing hoods attached created by the duo David Abraham and Rajesh Thakore for their collection, Shimmer. We especially loved the use of gold and dust spread along the couture. They transformed the traditional Gujarati kedia into modern silhouettes that gathered all the applauds.

While the designer duo Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna focused on tie-and-dye collection for women that featured trendy jackets paired with trousers and skirts, they also men’s regalia in combination of red and beige.

Samant Chauhan

Samant Chauhan’s line was all about lengthy dresses in shades of grey that were highlighted with fine embroidery on flared silhouettes and asymmetrical hemlines.

Pankaj and Nidhi

For Pankaj and Nidhi it was all about orange and pink shades that brightened up the ultra-feminine fishtail dresses. The look was balanced with funky hair streaks in the same hues of pink and orange.

Amit Aggarwal

Sheer ruffles and clear peplums formed the futuristic collection of Amit Aggarwal that had that ethnic touch and yet so contemporary. The lace defined ensembles in vibrant shades like, orange, red and blue are oh so trendy.

Aneeth Arora

For Aneeth Arora it was more of traditional approach with fabrics woven in Benarasi and Chanderi technique enhanced with block printing on maxi dresses.

AIFW Update: All About FDCI Amazon India Fashion Week Autumn-Winter 2016

While the 27th edition of Amazon India Fashion Week Autumn-Winter 2016 is scheduled to begin from March 16th at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, we are all set to celebrate creativity with 101 talented fashion designers across the country. From what we hear, the five-day fashion event in association with the cosmetic giant Maybelline New York will showcase the designs of 45 renowned fashion designers through 30 shows.

According to FDCI, AIFW is a platform that emphasizes the creative talent of the designers. This fashion extravaganza is all about interesting colors, unique silhouettes and super motivation for budding and established designers alike. Adding to our excitement we also hear that the celebrated couturier, Varun Bahl will open the fashion extravaganza on March 16th with his new collection that pays an ode to today’s woman with elegance, balance and proportion.

Bahl, who is known for his luxe style statement that reflects a blend of classic with contemporary on unique fabric returns with embroideries and textures in vogue. His latest collection he says, are in warm hues and seeks inspiration from flora and fauna. While we await the display of his exotic motifs and captivating silhouettes, we are also keen to witness some of the fascinating creations by other celebrated designers like, Anita Dongre, Gaurav Gupta, Rina Dhaka, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Malaini Pratap Singh and others.

So what’s new this year? Well, the Amazon India Fashion Week Autumn-Winter 2016 ramp is all set to experience the first accessory show which will showcase the creations by three debutante accessory designers, Sahai Ambar Pariddi, Valliyan by Nitya and Vasundhara on the third day of the show. While the “Memoir” theme by Sahai Ambar Pariddi is inspired by the magical sea with accessories made of pearls, corals and shells, Vasundhara’s “Au Natural” collection on the other hand is all about the wilderness that includes, twigs, branches, natural rocks and more. Nitya, in the meanwhile is all pledged to captivate you with her “Modern Mughals” collection that’s dedicated to the royal Mughal dynasty.

The grand finale theme they say will be “Indian Modern” and will showcase creations by nine ingenious designers including a. Although the designs will reflect Indian tradition on conventional textiles, they are also well suited for the international platform that echoes ethnicity with a modern touch.

Okay, so now what’s interesting here are the showstoppers from Bollywood who are all ready to set the ramp on fire with their sizzling appearances. While Bollywood movie “Hero” famed Athiya Shetty will walk for Namrata Joshipura on March 19, we also hear that actress Shriya Sharan will walk for Kanika Saluja of the label Anaikka.
